Jurnee Smollett, who plays Jess on Friday Night Lights, has been cast in the CBS pilot Defenders. She will play Lisa, the new associate who's thrown into the bustle on her first day.

Smollett will return to FNL in April, when production begins on the fifth and final season, according to Entertainment Weekly.
