Nanny Fran for Senate?

Fran Drescher

Forget Flushing — Fran Drescher is ready for Capitol Hill. The Nanny star has thrown her hat into the ring for the race for Hillary Clinton's Senate seat and says she's qualified, according to New York magazine.

"I've just been given the appointment of U.S. diplomat," said Drescher while at a party for HBO's Le Cirque: A Table in Heaven on December 3. "My title is public diplomacy envoy for women's health issues, and I just got back from a four-country European tour of duty. I believe next I'll be sent to the Middle East."

As cancer awareness activist, Drescher had been thinking about running for office. "I've been very successful in getting a bill passed in Washington," she said. "I was thinking I'd take the next four years to lay some groundwork, but I'm throwing my hat in the ring." The actress had even voiced her interest back in 2007 to US News stating that if Hillary were to become president, she would "want that seat."

Do you think the Senate could use some Nanny Fine?
