Summer TV: Fox Sets Schedule for So You Think You Can Dance, a Hot New Drama and More
So You Think You Can Dance
Spring may have barely sprung, but Fox is ready for warmer days with its summer TV lineup, including a handful of seasonal staples and a newcomer to the airwaves.
Honoring network tradition, reality mainstay So You Think You Can Dance will kick off the summer programming on the heels of American Idol's May 21 finale. As previously announced, Dance will get the rhythm going with two nights of two-hour premieres starting Thursday, May 21 and Wednesday, May 27. Once those first audition weeks are done, the series settles into its weekly schedule with shows airing Wednesdays at 8 and Thursdays at 9.
Arriving alongside Dance is Mental, a new medical drama that centers on Dr. Jack Gallagher (played by Chris Vance, aka Prison Break's Whistler), a young (read: sexy) psychiatrist who helms the Mental Health Services department at a Los Angeles hospital. He has a Dr. House-like approach to medicine, which conflicts with the philosophies of his conservative boss (Annabella Sciorra), with whom (surprise!) he has some romantic history.
Fox's other offerings on tap throughout the summer include:
- Don't Forget the Lyrics! Returns Friday, May 22.
- School's back in session for Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? Starting Friday, July 3.
- Hell's Kitchen serves new episodes beginning Tuesday, July 21.
- The Teen Choice 2009 kudoscast airs Monday, August 10.
