Food Network Looks At the Filthy Side of Food with Health Inspectors

Food Network has quietly scheduled the new special Health Inspectors, which follows restaurant consultant Ben Vaughn as he helps a restaurant do what it takes to pass a health inspection and stay open for business.
Health Inspectors is a pilot that, in success, could be picked up as a regular series. The initial episode, which airs Wednesday, June 20 at 10/9c, was taped in New Orleans, where the Southern restaurant Big Momma's Chicken & Waffles was facing several health code violations. Vaughn gives his advice on how the eatery might clean up its filth.
Restaurant health codes have been a popular story idea for local TV stations through the years, and also play a role on Fox's Kitchen Nightmares. More regions have also adopted letter grades to their inspections, requiring restaurants to showcase their results to patrons. In the case of Big Momma's, the stakes are extra high: Rather than assign a letter grade, Big Momma's is located in an area where restaurants either pass or fail.
Insiders note that Health Inspectors is a bit of a departure for Food Network, which is known more for programming about the joys of food and restaurants, and this show is less about the glorification of food.
