Fairly Legal Renewed For Season 2 — Creative Changes Ahead

Fairly Legal, Sarah Shahi

Fairly Legal will be back in session for a second season, USA announced Monday at its annual Upfront presentation.

"I've never been so happy to not have a summer vacation," series Sarah Shahi said at the presentation.

The legal procedural, however, will undergo creative changes before it returns to the small screen, according to Deadline. "We think there is a creative and audience upside to the show," USA Network Co-President Jeff Wachtel told the site. "Not every first season is the best, and we think it is a show that can do better."

Fairly Legal follows legal mediator Kate Reed (Shahi) in the wake of her father's (and also her boss') sudden death. Michael Trucco and Virginia Williams co-star as Kate's ex-husband, and stepmother, respectively. The hourlong dramedy is executive produced by Michael Sardo and Steve Stark.

Fairly Legal debuted in January and averaged 3.2 million viewers during its first season. The show is expected to begin production on Season 2 this summer for an early 2012 premiere.
