Elizabeth Taylor on Twitter: 'Ticker' Surgery Went 'Perfectly'

Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor is recovering after successful heart surgery, she tweeted Thursday.

"Dear Friends, My heart procedure went off perfectly. It's like having a brand new ticker. Thank you for your prayers and good wishes. I know they all helped. Love you, Elizabeth."

The two-time Oscar winner first announced the pending heart procedure — to repair a "leaky valve" — through Twitter on Wednesday. Taylor was first diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2004.

The 77-year-old actress' leaky valve is the latest in a long line of medical problems she has suffered from over the years. Besides using a wheelchair in recent years because of scoliosis, Taylor underwent surgery to have a brain tumor removed in 1997. She was also hospitalized last year for an undisclosed ailment.

Reports circulated in July that Taylor had been hospitalized from her grief over the death of close friend Michael Jackson, but her rep said the hospital visit was for scheduled tests.
