Elisabeth Moss

It's no shocker that Jared Harris isn't coming back to Mad Men next season. (RIP, Lane!) However, Harris set the Internet abuzz Tuesday after he implied that Elisabeth Moss has left the AMC drama as well.

When asked by The Daily if the cast threw him a going-away party, Harris said no. But then he likened his nondescript goodbye to that of several other regular cast members who have left the series permanently. In that list of names, Harris mentioned Moss, whose character was last seen quitting Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce for a promotion and major raise at a competing firm.

Mad Men's Jared Harris discuss Lane's big twist

"Actors are always ending jobs. It isn't a big deal in that sense," Harris said. "Also other people had left the show that had been there since the beginning. Elisabeth [Moss] left the episode before and she'd been there since the beginning. Michael Gladis left in Season 3... Bryan Batt," Harris said. "People leave and it's just part of it. They didn't make a giant fuss."

Although AMC declined to comment on Harris' quote, a  rep for Moss simply said, "The season isn't even over yet!"

Ultimately, it remains unclear how much Harris actually knows about her future on the notoriously secretive show. And Moss, who didn't appear in the only episode that's aired since her character quit, may have exited the season early in order to accommodate the shooting schedules of other projects, including the Sundance Channel miniseries, Top of the Lake.

Mad Men: What's the cost of doing business?

Unlike the other characters Harris mentioned, Moss' Peggy has always been much more central to Mad Men's narrative. Plus: Moss has been nominated for three Emmys for her portrayal of Peggy, and also nabbed a Critics Choice Television Award nomination Tuesday morning for best actress in a drama series.

So, do you think Moss' Mad Men days are behind her? Can you imagine the show without her?
