Elijah Wood Signs on For First Starring TV Role with Wilfred Pilot
Elijah Wood has come a long way from Middle-earth.
The Lord of the Rings actor has signed on for his first starring TV role in the FX comedy pilot Wilfred, the network announced Tuesday.
Wilfred is adapted from the critically acclaimed Australian series of the same name. The original series' co-creator and star, Jason Gann, will star opposite Wood.

Wilfred is described by executive producer David Zuckerman as a comedy "about a guy, Ryan (Wood), the girl next door, and mixed-breed dog, Wilfred (Gann), who is part Labrador retriever and part Russell Crowe on a bender."
Randall Einhorn (The Office) will direct the pilot, which starts shooting this summer. Gann is set to co-executive produce the series, along with fellow original series producers Joe Connor and Ken Conner. Royal Pains' Rich Frank, Paul Frank and Jeff Kwatinetz will also executive-produce.
