Ed Asner Hospitalized for Exhaustion After Shortened Show

Ed Asner

Ed Asner was hospitalized Tuesday for exhaustion after he experienced trouble on stage performing his one-man show, The Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Asner, 83, had difficulty speaking on stage before medical personnel arrived 15 minutes into the show to escort Asner off the stage, according to people attending the performance at Indiana's Maquette Pavilion. He was then taken by ambulance to an Indiana-area hospital. The actor's publicist, Charles Sherman, told the newspaper that Asner was "resting comfortably" and is expected to be released later Wednesday.

"Reports of my imminent demise are greatly exaggerated. They tell me I am suffering from exhaustion," Asner tweeted Wednesday morning. "Thanks for the good wishes!"

He had conducted an acting class at a leadership academy in Gary, Ind., a few hours before his abbreviated show, FDR, in which he plays the former President. Asner reportedly apologized to the audience as he left the stage, and promised to return when he could.

The seven-time Emmy winner most recently guest-starred on Law & Order: SVU and Hawaii Five-0.
