Lifetime Axes Drop Dead Diva After Four Seasons

Brooke Elliot and Jackson Hurst

Drop Dead Diva is dead... at Lifetime, which has canceled the series after four years, Deadline reports.

Drop Dead Diva told the story of a shallow model (Brooke D'Orsay) who dies and is brought back to life as an overweight, do-gooder lawyer (Brooke Elliott). According to Deadline, Lifetime felt the dramedy did not fit in with its move toward edgier material.

Fall 2013 TV scorecard: Which shows are returning? Which aren't?

After premiering to 2.8 million viewers in July 2009, its most recent season averaged a little more than 2 million viewers.

Sony Pictures TV, which produces Drop Dead Diva, might possibly shop it elsewhere. The news comes as another Lifetime scripted series, Army Wives, is undergoing several cast changes for the upcoming seventh season.
