In December, New Kids on the Block singer Donnie Wahlberg retweeted a link to his Twitter followers that may end up saving a life. The link was to a post on Abbie Vicknair's blog Love Can Do Anything called "Saving Bobbette — Donate Life" and was a call to action on behalf of Vicknair's friend Bobbette, who was in need of a kidney transplant.

As a result of Wahlberg's retweet, Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., was flooded with calls, and six came from matches for Bobbette. She is scheduled to have her transplant in June, according to the Boston Herald.

"It's a testament to the value of Twitter when used for more than telling people what one is eating for dinner or using it to sell products by tweeting as an #endorser," Wahlberg says.
