Don Imus Announces He Has Cancer

Talk-radio host Don Imus announced on the air that he has stage 2 prostate cancer, but predicted a complete recovery.

"I have great confidence in my doctors," the 68-year-old broadcaster said. "I'll be fine. If I'm not fine, then I won't be fine. And it's not a big deal."

He added: "The prognosis couldn't be better."

Stage 2 means the cancer has not spread outside the prostate, according to the National Cancer Institute.

Imus, a radio personality for nearly 40 years, was fired by CBS radio in 2007 after referring to members of the Rutgers women's basketball team as "nappy-headed hos." He was hired later that year by ABC radio.

Imus built his career on comedy and pranks, but has become more focused on news and politics.

In 1999, the host and his wife, Deirdre, founded the Imus Ranch, a working cattle ranch and charity in Ribera, N.M., for children with cancer, serious blood disorders, or siblings who died of sudden infant death syndrome.
