Dominic Monaghan

Welcome to the jungle! On the second season of BBC America's Wild Things With Dominic Monaghan, the Lost vet once again crisscrosses the globe in search of nature's most treacherous critters.

TV Guide Magazine: How has the show changed in Season 2?
Dominic Monaghan
:
We needed to be more ambitious with some of the animals we were looking for. It's just a little bit more dangerous and a little bit more raw.

TV Guide Magazine: Where are you off to this week?
Monaghan:
We go to Brazil and I sail down the Amazon looking for the world's largest beetle. I find a 14-foot anaconda, a few different types of bats and a lot of very crazy-looking nocturnal insects. It's a country that's exploding with life.

TV Guide Magazine: Do you ever get hurt?
Monaghan:
I got pretty badly injured this year with almost 40 stitches in my forearm from an animal that bit me. I've been stung by a few scorpions and bitten by a few non-venomous snakes and lizards, but I only really got hospitalized once.

TV Guide Magazine: Later this season, you visit New Zealand with your Lord of the Rings costar Billy Boyd. What was that like?
Monaghan:
It was quite emotional for us both, retracing some of the trips we took when we were making the trilogy. There are not a lot of venomous creatures in New Zealand, but there are a few things that will bite, scratch and sting you. Billy put his brave hat on.

TV Guide Magazine: Any other famous friends you'd like to take into the wild?
Monaghan:
I'm always giving Jimmy Kimmel a hard time — he gets the heebie-jeebies around animals. I'm like, "Man, you should come out with me for a week and I'll cure you of all your feeble fears!"

Wild Things With Dominic Monaghan airs Tuesdays at 10/9c on BBC America.
