Doctor Who Goes 3-D for 50th Anniversary Special

Matt Smith

Doctor Who has traveled to the far reaches of time and space, but for the first time, the Doctor is going to a previously untouched dimension. For its upcoming 50th anniversary special, the BBC hit will be broadcast in 3-D and shown in U.K. cinemas, Zap2It reports.

"It's about time," executive producer Steven Moffat said in a statement. "Technology has finally caught up with Doctor Who and your television is now bigger on the inside. A whole new dimension of adventure for the Doctor to explore."

The anniversary special is expected to air on Nov. 23 in the U.K., the same day Whovians were first introduced to the Doctor in 1963.

The Doctor Who reboot will wrap up its seventh season on BBC and BBC America on March 30.
