Discovery Cancels American Guns After Newtown Tragedy
Discovery will not renew reality series American Guns for a third season, Deadline reports.
"American Guns concluded earlier this year," a rep for the series told the site. "Discovery Channel chose not to renew the series and has no plans to air repeats of the show."

The network says the decision had been made a while ago and did not link the cancellation to Friday's school shooting in Newtown, Conn., when 26 people, including 20 children, were killed by the son of a gun collector. But the series, which followed a family of gun makers in Colorado, had been drawing negative attention since the shooting, with many calling for its cancellation.
American Guns star Paige Wyatt shared a screengrab of a tweet she received Saturday, stating: "Sickening to zap into American Guns right after the #Newtown shooting. Are you aware that you are encouraging this culture?" Wyatt commented that the person "obviously needs to be educated," adding multiple hashtags, including #aggravating, #dumb, #gunsdontkillpeoplepeoplekillpeople and #yourstupidityisbaffling.

If American Guns was axed in light of the shooting, it would be the first series to be canceled as a result of it. Many networks have already taken care to avoid airing sensitive content. Syfy pulled Friday's episode of Haven, which featured violence at a high school. TLC postponed its Best Funeral Ever special from Dec. 26 to Jan. 6. Fox preempted Family Guy and American Dad on Sunday, and ABC temporarily removed Scandal's winter finale episode from its website before restoring it on Monday.
