Dennis Hopper diagnosed with prostate cancer

The ailing 73-year-old actor —known for his roles in Speed, Blue Velvet and Hoosiers — appeared thin from his battle with prostate cancer when receiving the award in front of the Egyptian Theatre.

Dennis Hopper files for divorce

Shortly after he was diagnosed with cancer, the star-writer-director of 1969's Easy Rider filed for divorce from his fifth wife, Victoria, who then petitioned for full custody of Galen.

His doctor, David Agus, has told The Associated Press that legal proceedings "could actually threaten his ability to survive his current health crisis." However, his doctor approved Hopper's appearance to receive his star because it would likely be a positive experience in this trying time.
