Days of Our Lives Renewed for Two More Years

Days of Our Lives

NBC has renewed Days of Our Lives for two more years.

Jeff Gaspin, the chairman of NBC Universal Television Entertainment, made the announcement Monday, saying the soap opera "continues to draw new generations of viewers, especially among its loyal female audience."

The new contract will take Days of Our Lives through September 2013.

With the recent demise of Guiding Light and As the World Turns, the renewal left Ken Corday, Days' executive producer, expressing his "greatest gratitude" to the network's commitment.

"This is a time of a lot of uncertainty in the soap community," Corday earlier told The New York Times, which first reported the renewal.

Corday — whose parents helped create the series 45 years ago — said he "broke down" and cried when Jeff Zucker, NBC Universal's departing chief executive, called him Friday about being re-upped.
