David Morrissey to Play The Governor on The Walking Dead

David Morrissey has just landed the plum role of The Governor on The Walking Dead, AMC announced Friday.

The Governor, a character from Robert Kirkman's graphic novels, is the vicious leader of Woodbury, a small settlement of survivors. The Governor becomes one of Rick's greatest foes in the comic series.

Morrissey, who will make his Walking Dead debut in Season 3, is well-known for his roles in British series State of Play, Meadowlands and The Deal. His film credits include The Other Boleyn Girl, The Water Horse and Nowhere Boy.

The Walking Dead, which was recently renewed for a 16-episode third season, goes back into production this spring.
