Daughter of Billy Bob Thornton Arrested in Baby's Death

The oldest daughter of Billy Bob Thornton has been charged with child neglect in the death of a 1-year-old baby under her care.
Amanda Brumfield was arrested Friday and charged with child neglect causing harm or disability, the Associated Press reports. Brumfield was released from custody Saturday after posting $2,500 bail.
Brumfield, 29, told Ocoee, Fla., police that a girl she was babysitting in October 2008 fell out of her playpen and hit her head, police said. Brumfield didn't call for help until two and a half hours later when she couldn't revive the child, police said.
An autopsy showed the girl suffered a fractured skull and brain injury. The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide and said Brumfield's explanation was inconsistent with the baby's injuries.
Brumfield is Thornton's daughter with the actor's first wife, Melissa Gatlin. Thornton's rep told CNN the father and daughter are estranged "and [he] has had no contact with her for quite some time. When informed about this situation, he commented that, 'Anytime a baby's life is lost is an unimaginable tragedy and my heart goes out to the baby's family and loved ones.'"
