Report: Glee's Darren Criss Offered X Factor Hosting Gig

Darren Criss

Darren Criss has been offered the chance to host The X Factor next season, E! Online reports.

Criss, 25, turned down the gig because of his busy schedule, which includes acting, singing and dancing on Glee as one of the Fox musical series' regulars. The X Factor's original host, Steve Jones, got the boot in January, along with judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul. "I won't be hosting next season's X Factor which is a shame but I can't complain as I've had a great time," Jones tweeted at the time.

Although several New Directions members are set to graduate from McKinley High this spring, Criss' character is a currently a junior on Glee. The actor recently earned rave reviews — and brought in major ticket sales — starring on Broadway in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. He is also set to co-star with Kristen Wiig in the indie film Imogene.

Since The X Factor's big shakeup, judge and executive producer Simon Cowell has said he wants two co-hosts for next season — one male and one female. Among the rumored new additions to the judges table are Janet Jackson, who recently said she declined the offer because of touring commitments, and Britney Spears, who was reportedly offered $10 million to join the show.
