Dancing With The Stars

Dancing with the Stars' Maksim Chmerkovskiy is crossing his fingers for a Mirrorball trophy — not elimination.

Contrary to a Life & Style report that said that the Dancing pro hopes to get booted because partner Brandy is a diva, Chmerkovskiy tells TVGuide.com that the pair get along "wonderfully."

"We don't fight. We're very good friends. I don't know how to say it so that people will believe me, but we have a great relationship," he says. "I really like Brandy. I don't want to get eliminated and I think we have a good shot at winning. Why would I work my a-- off if I wanted to leave?"

The report came days after the ABC series aired a tense and dramatic video package of the pair's jive rehearsals — which was not reflective of their relationship, Chmerkovskiy says.

"We are one of the friendliest couples this season," he says. "I would love for you guys to see how we are in rehearsal. We joke around and talk all the time and have so much in common. If they air that, great. If they don't, that's OK too, but don't manufacture it into something it's not. That's how fake stories like this get started."

Chmerkovskiy says he talked to producers about the package afterward, and they agreed it went overboard.

"I said, 'Seriously, was that really necessary? All the dramatic music and mean faces,'" he says. "They were like, 'Yeah, we get it.' It was one of those instances where nobody really liked it once they saw how it came out. The post-mortem was that it was that it was a little too much. It did nobody any favors and turned into a malicious rumor."
