Tradition Rules as Strait, Underwood Win Big at CMA Awards

Country music respects tradition, and there was plenty of it at the 42nd annual CMA Awards: George Strait took home two awards, including album and single of the year, to bring his award total to 22 trophies, the most of any artist at the CMAs.

Kenny Chesney, meanwhile, won entertainer of the year for the fourth time in five years, and co-host and American Idol champ Carrie Underwood scored her third consecutive award for female vocalist of the year. Underwood's co-host, Brad Paisley, took home Male Vocalist of the year. The broadcast averaged 15.87 million total viewers, making it the night's most watched program.

Here's a list of the other major winners:

New Artist: Lady Antebellum

Vocal Group: Rascal Flatts

Vocal Duo: Sugarland

Song: "Stay" (Jennifer Nettles)

Music Video: "Waitin' On A Woman" (Brad Paisley featuring Andy Griffith)

Musician: Mac McAnally (Guitar)
