TVGuide.com: Will Chuck try to take on the Ring by himself now that Casey (Adam Baldwin) is gone? And can he really become a spy?
Chris Fedak: I think Chuck can definitely achieve being a spy. The question we struggle with — and one he struggles with — is: What does it mean to be a spy? Will he still be the same guy? His potential is amazing in that he could do amazing things. It's just if he has the willpower to do it. Our next episode is all about that. It's essentially about that decision of what Chuck is willing to do.
TVGuide.com: Do you feel that you were able to open up the story line a lot more this season now that Morgan knows Chuck's secret?
Fedak: I love the fact that Morgan knows Chuck's secret. Chuck in Season 1 was the regular guy brought into the spy world. Morgan is a new way for us to visit the spy world and see how amazing it is. Josh Gomez is just fantastic as a wide-eyed newbie to the spy world.
Chuck's Captain Awesome becoming much more awesome
TVGuide.com: Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) and Shaw (Brandon Routh) seem to be getting closer. Will they get serious?
Fedak: Absolutely. I think as she's watched Chuck change this season — and that he seems to be changing from the guy that she fell in love with — [she realizes] Shaw is the guy that she should've been with in the first place. He's a guy who shares much of her professional experience. She's not a normal girl and Shaw's not a normal guy. They know that world and are obviously attracted to each other. There's a version of reality where he's the perfect guy for her.
TVGuide.com: In the last episode, we saw that Casey had a fiancé and possibly a child. Will we see more come out of that?
Fedak: We will revisit that story later this season, yes. I think the amazing thing about Casey is that he's been protecting the United States of America for the last 20 years, and now he's actually going to be living among us. He has to live the life of an average man, and it's going to be an alien world for him. Usually, he can always flip off to Castle and go on an amazing mission, but this is the opposite of Chuck. Chuck is now going off to become the hero, and Casey has been benched. He has to somehow survive through the Buy More.
TVGuide.com: Speaking of the Buy More, what's with these crazy pictures of Jeffster in the season finale?
Fedak: Yes, you're seeing a part of Jeffster's first music video. All I'll say is that they spend two weekends working on it. Two whole weekends.
TVGuide.com: We'll see Casey at the Buy More and Jeffster there as well, but what about Chuck?
Fedak: I will give you a "no comment" in regard to Chuck staying at the Buy More or leaving the Buy More, but it's certainly a part of the show.
Chuck spies Christopher Lloyd for guest role
TVGuide.com: What can you say about the second half of the season?
Fedak: It's essentially a glimpse of what Season 4 is. It's a glimpse of a new show. It's a combination of fun, but we're working on the finale right now, and it just has epic pathology. Amazing things are going to happen. I'll say this: No one is safe.
TVGuide.com: Well, that's upsetting! How about the show? Is Chuck safe? If not, what can fans do to help the show?
Fedak: I'm waiting with bated breath like everybody else to find out. Right now, what our fans can do is just get the word out about the show. Tell your friends, your family and your neighbors. It's about the numbers and people watching the show, so whatever people can do to talk up the show and get people to watch it.
TVGuide.com: Consider the word spread. If you guys don't get picked up, do you have an ending planned?
Fedak: We have an ending that we've been working on for a while now, so we've designed the entire season to go that way.
