Blogger Jeff Schreiber responded to Rock, saying, "Slavery existed for 2000yrs before America. We eradicated it in 100. We now have a black POTUS."

Not everyone responded negatively to Rock's non-traditional Independence Day message. Actor Don Cheadle re-tweeted the joke. Elon James White, host of the web series This Week in Blackness, attempted to give his followers some perspective on the controversy. "I just wanna ask everyone who's mad at @ChrisRock—Is he wrong? IS. HE. WRONG?" White tweeted.
