Country music star Chely Wright has come out.

Wright told People magazine she kept it secret because she didn't want to be the first country music artist to acknowledge his or her homosexuality, but she has changed her mind.

"Nothing in my life has been more magical than the moment I decided to come out," she said.

The 39-year-old singer-songwriter, perhaps best known for the 1999 hit "Single White Female," said that she reached stardom at a young age in a Southern community that shunned homosexuality. "I hid everything for my music," Wright said.
