George Wendt, Kirstie Alley and Rhea Perlman
Can you imagine if Cheers' cranky Carla (Rhea Perlman) had hooked up with sluggish barfly Norm (George Wendt)? "Nothing ever happened between us, which is why Cheers was such a crappy show," jokes Perlman. "Cheers could have run 20 years if Carla and Norm had at least kissed."
Fans will get that kiss in the Feb. 5 episode of the new TV Land sitcom Kirstie, when Wendt guest stars as a professional pool player who may harbor feelings for his ex, Perlman's Thelma. "She still has a soft spot for him," Perlman says of her character, the assistant to fellow Cheers alum Kirstie Alley's Madison Banks, "even though he cheated, has another love interest, and Maddie does not like him."
Would Perlman and Wendt team up for a Cheers reunion movie? "I'd be happy to, and I think it would be interesting to see Sam Malone in his sixties," Wendt says. "But we've been told that's never going to happen."
