The outrageous comic played it straight — well, for her anyway — as the owner of an adulterous dating website who became a suspect in the murder of one of her clients. Silverman held her own in dramatic scenes opposite the formidable Julianna Margulies, as her character's non-monogamous philosophy caused Alicia to ponder her extra-marital attraction to law-firm colleague Will Gardner (Josh Charles).

The CBS serial's script wisely gave the comedienne a few naughty lines — she informed Alicia that her public marital strife inspired a porn movie ("men masturbate to you... it's kind of an honor"). Yet this role showed a more serious side of Silverman than has ever been seen, including her two-episode 1996 stint as a scientist on Star Trek: Voyager. She's been nominated for comic acting Emmys before (for The Sarah Silverman Program and Monk), but don't be surprised if voters find in her favor for a dramatic turn someday.
