Jersey Shore

Jeers to Jersey Shore for losing touch with its Garden State roots.

As has been noted by Gov. Chris Christie, among others, much of the cast of MTV's watercooler smash doesn't hail from New Jersey. At least Season 1 was shot in Seaside Heights, but in a rush to get the show back on the air before Snooki & Co.'s 15 minutes of infamy run out, Season 2 opens with the gang fleeing the snowy Northeast for Miami Beach (or "the MIA," which, as the Situation helpfully explains, "means Miami"). The absurdity of a show called Jersey Shore filming in Florida reminds one of Reno 911!: Miami, only this time the humor is unintentional, like when Snooki says of hand-washing Sammi Sweetheart's drink-stained shorts, "I feel like a pilgrim from the friggin' '20s."

To see a more accurate representation of the Jersey Shore in the friggin' 20s, you'll have to wait until September 19, when HBO debuts its magnificent new series Boardwalk Empire. Executive-produced by Martin Scorsese (who also masterfully directed the pilot) and The Sopranos' Terence Winter, the sprawling gangster drama unfolds in Atlantic City during the Prohibition Era. After witnessing Ronnie's boozy sexploits in Jersey Shore's Season 2 opener, you may find yourself squarely on the side of the teetotalers.

Which are you more excited for—Jersey Shore or Boardwalk Empire?
