ABC Resurrects It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown Rapping Ad — But Is It So Wrong?

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

To promote Thursday's airing of It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, ABC revived last year's ad featuring Charlie Brown rapping the sales pitch about it.

"Hey, party people, it's Charlie B / Bringing Halloween Thursday to ABC," Charlie rhymes. (Really, it's just the old animation with new voiceover.) "Raking leaves and rolling on a pumpkin / Trick or treat, and then the party gets thumpin.'" In the longer version of the ad, the fun continues: "Lucy's getting bossy / Snoopy's getting saucy / Things have gotten crazy with my Peanut posse." Crazy! "But where is Linus? / This party is posh / he's waiting in the field for a mythical squash." Mythical squash!

People cried sacrilege last year, and this week's re-airing of the commercial has brought on a new wave of critique. A sampling of the Twitter hate Wednesday night:

"The rapping It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown promo is terrible. Why ABC? Why?" — @hofftv

"Did I just hear Charlie Brown from Peanuts say "word"?? And what's this 'pumpkin rap' crap? My 9 yr old self cringed. — @Supercat66

"Horrified by Charlie Brown Halloween rap promo. Thank you for ruining a classic, ABC. I hope you get apples when you go trick or treating." — @wittz_end

I don't know, guys. I think it's funny — like Kim Zolciak singing funny. Is it really such an abomination to see Charlie Brown rap? Can you ever go wrong with "Hey, party people!"? Anyone else think it's sort of funny?
