Charles Barkley is taking a leave of absence from TNT's Inside the NBA following his recent DUI arrest, The Associated Press reports.
The former NBA pro serves as a commentator and analyst on the series. TNT did not specify the length of the break.
Barkley was arrested early New Year's Eve morning in Scottsdale, Ariz. for running a stop sign. After failing field sobriety tests, he was booked and released. Test results later showed Barkley had a blood-alcohol level at .149, almost twice the state legal limit of .08.
"When I spoke with Charles, he was apologetic for the events that transpired and it was obvious he understood the significance of this situation," David Levy, president of Turner Sports, said in a statement. "This is an important time for Charles as he deals with the legal and personal issues that confront him. Charles is a valued part of the Turner Sports organization, and we are concerned for his well-being."
Barkley has served as an analyst for TNT since 2000.
