Celebrities Encouraging Donations for Haitian Relief Efforts

Celebrities are pitching in to encourage aid to Haiti following the massive earthquake that hit the Caribbean island nation earlier this week.

Wyclef Jean's plea for urgent earthquake relief in Haiti: "We must act now"

George Clooney and MTV are working together to stage a telethon for Haitian earthquake relief, The Associated Press reports. Though the roster of celebrities that will participate has yet to be determined, Clooney's rep tells The AP it will likely air on Jan. 22 on all MTV networks — including VH1, Comedy Central and CMT — as well as on ABC, NBC, HBO and CNN.

The Tonight Show's Conan O'Brien put his dispute with NBC in perspective, calling his problems "silly" compared to the devastation in Haiti. The late-night host encouraged viewers to donate to Stillerstrong, Ben Stiller's charity that raises money for children in Haiti.

Haitian-American musician Wyclef Jean is also urging people to "act now" by donating to his non-profit organization, Yele Haiti Foundation, by visiting Yele.org or texting "Yele" to 501501, which will automatically donate $5 (to be charged to cell phone bills).

Angelina Jolie, a goodwill ambassador to the United Nations since 2001, and Brad Pitt also released a statement that they will work with Jean in his efforts, according to Entertainment Tonight.
