CW Cancels Emily Owens, M.D.

Mamie Gummer

The CW has pulled the plug on Emily Owens, M.D., TVGuide.com has confirmed.

The network has elected not to pick up the back nine episodes of the medical dramedy. Starring Mamie Gummer and Justin Hartley, Emily will wrap production on its initial 13-episode order next week, and the network will air all episodes, six of which have already aired.

Emily Owens bowed to 1.7 million viewers and a 0.5 in the adults 18-to-49 demographic, building on Hart of Dixie's lead-in audience (1.3 million, 0.6), but it was down more than 50 percent compared to Ringer's debut, which premiered mid-September last year in the same timeslot. However, Dixie and Owens' premiere numbers combined for The CW's most-watched Tuesday since Nov. 29, 2011, despite going up against a debate. Its latest outing drew 1 million viewers and a 0.3.

CW has already picked up Arrow and Beauty and the Beast for full seasons, while Cult and Carrie Diaries will debut midseason.
