Rules of Engagement

It's another hail mary for the comedy that just won't die.

CBS has renewed Rules of Engagement for a seventh season set to premiere sometime midseason, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Get the scoop on CBS' new fall schedule

After extended talks, which kept the renewal news from being announced with the rest of CBS' 2012-2013 TV schedule, 13 episodes of the veteran comedy will be produced, bringing its total episode count to exactly 100 — the number normally needed for a show to go into syndication.

This is not the first time Rules of Engagement has been renewed at the last minute or been held for midseason. Last fall, the show has slated to air Saturdays at 8/7c before CBS quickly canceled freshman comedy How to Be a Gentleman and replaced it with Rules. However, the episode order for Season 6 was cut from 24 to 15 episodes because of another soon-to-be-canceled freshman comedy, Rob.

Fall TV scorecard: Which shows are returning? Which aren't?

The Season 6 finale averaged 7.1 million viewers per episode and a 2.1 rating in the adults ages 18-49 demographic.

It is unknown yet where Rules of Engagement will land on CBS' midseason schedule. First-year comedy Friend Me is also set to bow later in the year.
