CBS News' Lara Logan in Hospital Following "Brutal" Attack in Egypt

CBS News' Chief Foreign Affairs correspondent Lara Logan is recovering in a U.S. hospital following a sexual attack and beating while covering the unrest in Egypt.
TV journalists increasingly targeted in Egypt
On Friday, Logan and her team were in Tahrir Square when former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak stepped down.
In a statement, the network said: "In the crush of the mob, [Logan] was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering."
The assault lasted 20 to 30 minutes, and was "not a rape," a source familiar with the attack told the Wall Street Journal.

A week prior, Logan and her crew were held by Egyptian police outside Cairo's Israeli embassy, which was among the many reports of journalists increasingly being targeted — detained, harassed or beaten — during the protests. CBS anchorwoman Katie Couric, CNN's Anderson Cooper and a Fox News Channel crew were among those under attack.
