Surf's Up: CBS Books Pilot for New Hawaii Five-O

Hawaii Five-O

CBS has given a pilot commitment to a modern version of classic 1970s cop series Hawaii Five-O, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The redo comes from Fringe co-creators and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci and CSI: NY executive producer Peter Lenkov. Kurtzman and Orci are creating the story with Lenkov, who will write the script. All three will executive produce.

CBS first tried to launch a Hawaii update last year with Criminal Minds executive producer Ed Bernero. The original series, which starred Jack Lord as Steve McGarrett, the leader of the fictional Hawaiian State Police Department, was best known for its opening theme song and the catchphrase, "Book 'em, Danno."

In addition to Fringe, Kurtzman and Orci have written both Transformers films, as well as the  J.J. Abrams'-directed Star Trek reboot and Mission: Impossible III.
