Brett Ratner and Don Mischer to Produce Oscars Ceremony

Blockbuster director Brett Ratner just got his most Hollywood gig yet: He's been tapped to produce the 84th Academy Awards telecast. The first-time Oscars-helmer will be joined by Don Mischer, who's been producing televised specials for decades, including last year's Oscars.
"Making movies has been my dream since childhood, and I've been fortunate enough to have made several, but the Oscar show is in a league of its own," Ratner said in the news release announcing the gig. "It will be fantastic to work with a live television master like Don to meld the glamour of legendary Hollywood with the enormous talents who thrill moviegoers today."

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Tom Sherak, who handpicked Ratner for the job, praised the director's "love of film and its history" and called him "a true student of the business of movies."
