A&E Cancels Breakout Kings, MTV Axes I Just Want My Pants Back
A&E has canceled the crime drama Breakout Kings after two seasons, Deadline reports.
The news comes one day after co-creator Matt Olmstead signed on to run NBC freshman drama Chicago Fire. Breakout Kings cheated death once before — it was originally developed for Fox, but A&E picked up the series after Fox passed on the project. Breakout Kings, starring Jimmi Simpson, attracted 1.33 million viewers for its Season 2 finale last month.
Fall TV scorecard: Which shows are returning? Which aren't?
In other cable news, MTV has decided not to order a second season of I Just Want My Pants Back. The acclaimed series from Doug Liman (Covert Affairs) grabbed 930,000 viewers for its March season finale. "We're proud to have aired I Just Want My Pants Back, with its impressive creative pedigree and talented group of actors," MTV said in a statement. "Many factors go in to determining renewals, however, and ultimately, we decided not to move forward with an additional season of Pants."
Producers are expected to shop the coming-of-age drama, starring Peter Vack, to other networks.
