Box Office: Zero Dark Thirty Rises to No. 1, Beats Gangster Squad

Gangster Squad

In its first week of wide release, Zero Dark Thirty skyrocketed from No. 16 to No. 1 to beat new entries A Haunted House and Gangster Squad.

The military thriller, which earned five Oscar nominations, grossed an estimated $24 million, Box Office Mojo reports.  The scary movie spoof A Haunted House from Marlon Wayans scared up $18.1 million to take second place. Gangster Squad, starring Ryan Gosling and Sean Penn, grabbed $16.7 million to come in at No. 3.
