Box Office: Texas Chainsaw 3D Kills the Competition

Moviegoers rang in the new year with a lot of blood.

Texas Chainsaw 3D grabbed the top spot at the weekend box office, grossing an estimated $23 million in its opening weekend, Box Office Mojo reports.

Django Unchained took No. 2 with a little over $20 million. In third, The Hobbit grabbed $17.5 million followed by Les Miserables at No. 4 with $16.1 million. Parental Guidance completed the top 5, taking in $10.1 million.

In sixth place, Jack Reacher drew $9.3 million. This Is 40 attracted $8.5 million to rank seventh.

Rounding out the top 10: Lincoln (No. 8, $5.2 million), The Guilt Trip (No. 9, $4.5 million) and Promised Land (No. 10, $4.3 million).
