The Men in Black weren't just defeating invading aliens over Memorial Day weekend: Men in Black 3 debuted in the No. 1 slot at the box office, unseating three-time champion The Avengers.
The third installment of the Men in Black franchise grossed an estimated $70 million, Box Office Mojo reports. The Avengers fell to No. 2, pulling in an additional $46.9 million to bring its total gross to $523.5 million domestically.
The Avengers sinks Battleship and The Dictator at the box office
Battleship and The Dictator fell to the third and fourth slots with $13.8 million and $11.8 million, respectively. Dark Shadows rounded out the top 5 with $9.4 million, while the new horror thriller Chernobyl Diaries came in at No. 6 with $9.3 million.
Rounding out the top 10: What to Expect When You're Expecting (No. 7, $8.9 million), The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (No. 8, $8.2 million) and The Hunger Games (No. 9, $2.9 million). Think Like a Man (No. 10, $1.8 million).
