The Devil Inside transfixed moviegoers in its first weekend of release, grossing an estimated $34.5 million, Hollywood.com reports.
After two weeks at No. 1, Mission Impossible — Ghost Protocol fell to second place, scaring up $20.5 million, though it's raked in $170.2 million so far. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows followed in third place with $14 million.
Box office: Mission Impossible stays on top; surpasses predecessor
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo rose to No. 4, taking in $11.4 million. Completing the top 5, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked drew $9.5 million.
War Horse finished sixth, taking in $8.6 million. We Bought a Zoo followed closely behind with $8.5 million.
Rounding out the top 10: The Adventures of Tintin (No. 8, $6.6 million), Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (No. 9, $5.8 million) and New Year's Eve (No. 10, $3.3 million).
