Box Office: Argo Debuts Strong But Can’t Catch Taken 2

Argo

Five new releases weren't enough to dethrone Taken 2 from the top of the box office.

The action film held onto the No. 1 spot, grossing an estimated $22.5 million in its second week of release, according to Box Office Mojo. Ben Affleck's third directorial effort, Argo, led the weekend's new films, to land at No. 2 with an opening-weekend bounty of $20.1 million. Following in third place, horror movie Sinister scared up $18.25 million.

Box Office: Taken 2 runs away with $50 million

Hotel Transylvania fell to fourth place with $17.3 million. Kevin James' new comedy Here Comes the Boom completed the top 5 with a debut weekend of $12 million.

At No. 6, Pitch Perfect scored $9.3 million, and Frankenweenie dug up $7.01 million to take seventh.

Rounding out the top 10: Looper (No. 8, $6.3 million), new release Seven Psychopaths (No. 9, $4.2 million) and The Perks of Being a Wallflower (No. 10, $2.1 million).
