Bones Creator Hart Hanson: We Were Going to Have Michael Clarke Duncan Return

Michael Clarke Duncan and Geoff Stults

In a moving tribute to the late actor Michael Clarke Duncan, who passed away Monday, Bones creator Hart Hanson reveals there were plans to bring the Oscar nominee back on the show this season.

Hanson tells The Hollywood Reporter that after the Bones spin-off The Finder, starring Duncan and Geoff Stults, was not picked up for a second season, he had hoped to do a second crossover episode that featured both Finder characters on Bones to pick up where The Finder left off and explain their whereabouts.

"We put all that on hold when he had his heart attack in July, but we were hoping he'd be back. [Bones star] David Boreanaz directed a Finder episode, and David and MCD really bonded. They're both team-playing, big-hearted, noisy, jock-type wonderful guys," Hanson said. "We're just now coming to grips with the idea that MCD is gone. I sure hope we can think of something that would do him proud."

The Finder, which first started as a backdoor pilot in an episode of Bones, was Duncan's first TV series role. Based on the book series of the same name, The Finder launched in January before it was canceled by Fox in May due to low ratings.

Duncan passed away Monday, almost two months after suffering a heart attack.
