Bones: What's Next For Booth and Brennan's Relationship?

During the tearful closing moments of Bones' 100th episode, fans of the Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) relationship were led to believe that all hope had been lost for their favorite couple. But things aren't so black and white on Fox's forensic drama.
"There's definitely a future for Booth and Brennan," Deschanel tells TVGuide.com. "People should not be giving up at all. I think they very much belong together."

"Brennan is really trying to protect herself," Deschanel says of her character's decision not to say yes to Booth's advances. "I think it's so scary to her still. She was abandoned and it's too scary to open herself up in that way."
For now, the producers are content to dance around the idea of getting the characters together. "If we did get them together, the fans would hate us because they like the tension and so do we," says executive producer Stephen Nathan. "After the 100th episode, they take a big turn and things change."
But will their relationship change for the better? "You can't really push it and say it's going to get worse or better," says Boreanaz, who insists that fans should not give up hope on seeing them together. "The relationship will continue to grow."

If you thought Deschanel's crying in the 100th episode was heartbreaking, just wait until you see the season finale. "There are some big changes for them in the finale that affects the future in a big way," Deschanel says. Executive producer Hart Hanson adds: "We have a big finale, and I hope for some more crying — of joy or sadness, I don't know."
