Bob Newhart has joined Lifetime's new original movie Project Five, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.
Lifetime renews Army Wives, sets Diva premiere
An anthology of five short films, Project Five explores the impact of breast cancer on people's lives. Newhart, 81, will play Dr. Roth, a longtime friend of Pearl (Jeanne Tripplehorn), who has to tell her some bad news. Pearl is a highly respected oncologist who lost her own mother to breast cancer.
Besides Tripplehorn, the cast includes Patricia Clarkson, Rosario Dawson, Kathy Najimy, Tracee Ellis Ross, Tony Shalhoub and Jeffrey Tambor. Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore, Alicia Keys and Patty Jenkins will each direct.
Bob Newhart to guest-star on NCIS as medical examiner
Newhart, best known for his sitcoms The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart, most recently guest-starred on NCIS.
Project Five will premiere later this year.
