Bob Costas

Bob Costas is switching teams — er, networks. The sportscaster will leave HBO Sports to join the MLB Network, Variety reports.

At his new cable home, Costas will provide play-by-play commentary for the channel's 26 live regular-season games, as well as host original programming, including his own interview series, MLB Network Studio 42 With Bob Costas. The show is slated to launch Thursday and will feature Costas' sit-down with L.A. Dodgers manager Joe Torre.

The new deal will not affect Costas' relationship with NBC, where he covers the Olympics and the NFL, including last weekend's Super Bowl.

Costas had been with HBO since 2001 and hosted two shows on the cabler, Costas Now (formerly known as On the Record) and Inside the NFL until the latter moved to Showtime.
