Boardwalk Empire has been renewed for a second season after airing one episode, HBO announced Tuesday.
"The response from the media and our viewers has been nothing short of amazing," HBO president Michael Lombardo said.

The drama from Emmy winner Terence Winter is set in Atlantic City as prohibition has set in. It stars Steve Buscemi as crime boss Nucky Thompson and Michael Pitt as his young protégé, Jimmy Darmody.

Sunday's series premiere averaged 4.8 million viewers, making it HBO's biggest debut of any program in more than six years.
