HBO Sets Premiere Date for Boardwalk Empire

Boardwalk Empire, a new drama series from Martin Scorsese, will premiere on HBO on Sept. 19 at 9/8c, the network announced Friday.

Based on a novel by Nelson Johnson and created by Terence Winter (The Sopranos), Boardwalk Empire revolves around Nucky Johnson (Steve Buscemi), the head of an Atlantic City liquor distribution ring, at the start of the Prohibition.

The cast includes Michael Pitt, Kelly Macdonald, Michael Shannon, Dabney Coleman, Shea Whigham, Anthony Laciura, Stephen Graham, Aleksa Palladino, Michael Stuhlbarg, Vincent Piazza, Paz de la Huerta, Paul Sparks, Michael Kenneth Williams and Gretchen Mol.

Scorsese directed the pilot and will serve as executive producer alongside Winter, Tim Van Patten, Stephen Levinson and Mark Wahlberg.
