The Shield creator and executive producer Shawn Ryan is teaming with Beverly Hills Cop star Eddie Murphy on a TV adaptation of the hugely popular 1984 big-screen comedy, Vulture reports.

Eddie Murphy in Rolling Stone: No more kid films, a Beverly Hills Cop TV show?

Ryan and Murphy, whose production company produced all three Beverly Hills Cop movies, began pitching the project to TV networks on Tuesday, the site reports. Murphy, 51, would serve as an executive producer on the series and make occasional on-screen appearances, including in the pilot.

The TV version is a described as an hour-long crime procedural with strong comedic elements. Last October, Murphy talked to Rolling Stone. about bringing Beverly Hills Cop to TV as a series "starring Axel Foley's son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit." It's unclear how similar the show Ryan and Murphy are currently pitching is to Murphy's original idea.

Since Ryan's gritty cop drama The Shield ended in 2008, he also created and executive-produced the much more comedic (but just as critically acclaimed) cop show Terriers. His latest drama, Last Resort, premieres on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 8/7c on ABC.
