Betty White Sweet and Sassy as Always on SNL Debut

Betty White - SNL

Betty White made her much anticipated Saturday Night Live hosting debut and challenged Alec Baldwin's Schweddy Balls for double-entendre naughtiness.

Who will join Alec Baldwin on Saturday Night Live season finale?

Though Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Ana Gasteyer and Rachel Dratch all returned, each seemed eager to cede the spotlight to White, who appeared in every sketch. Resurrecting NPR's "Delicious Dish" with Shannon and Gasteyer, White dropped by as baker Florence Dusty to show off her signature muffins. "My muffin hasn't had a cherry since 1939," White deadpanned.

Watch the sketch:

In her opening monologue, White reminded viewers that she was not new to live TV, having performed live six days a week for five and a half hours a day on a variety show when she was first starting out in the early '50s. "Of course, back then, we didn't want to do it live. We just didn't know how to tape things," she said. "I don't know what this show's excuse is."

Watch the monologue:

Playing off White's trademark charming and bawdy sense of humor, many of the sketches featured the 88-year-old saying something totally inappropriate, such as when she threatened a trio of teen criminals with a visit to "The Wizard of A--" in a "Scared Straight" spoof.

Watch the sketch:

There were no Password, Mary Tyler Moore Show or Golden Girls spoofs — except for a "Digital Short" that started out sweet with the cast serenading White with "Thank You for Being a Friend" and ended with White's blood-spewing death-metal version of the song. White, who got her Horatio Caine on in a CSI: Sarasota parody set in a retirement home, appeared in the MacGruber skits as the inept agent's grandmother, to whom he ultimately proposes.

What did you think of White's SNL debut? What were you favorite sketches?
